i can't seem to figure out this issue. Basically i have 2 icons one for the last logged on user or one that says other user. if i try to click either nothing happens. i can log in fine under safe mode but in safe mode i don't need to click the icon. Under safe mode it just needs the password.

i have tried to restore several restore points but they seem to blue screen. I also tried to start windows without loading startup items and disabling non-microsoft services. I also tried running chkdsk and updating the gpu driver.

Unable to install IE 10 on Windows 7 Pro SP1 after applying IE 10 blocker toolkit.

Hi There,

I have been having this issue from the last few weeks. We applied IE 10 blocker tool kit from Microsoft last year and now when we are ready to deploy it, It does not get installed. I changed the value in registry and it's 0 at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\10.0 location and rebooted the machine but no luck.

I tried to use Offline installer but no luck. IE 10 will not show up in many cases in Windows Updates and if it shows up, it fails to installs and gives error code:9C59.I also upgraded to 11 and downgraded to 9 and 8 version many times but no luck.

Can any one help me with this?

Desktop Shortcuts Keep Disappearing/Deleting Randomly

I have recently moved from from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro and I am having a particular problem regarding desktop shortcuts:

I have many shortcuts on my desktop for quick access to my companies 2 large global network drives, however, at random Windows seems to delete all of my shortcuts to any network folder! With having about 15-20 shortcuts this is causing me considerable time and pain having to find the folders and creating new shortcuts; so i have 2 questions:

1. Is there any way to stop this happening or is it a bug in the system?

2. Is there a quick way to backup and restore desktop shortcuts?

FYI - I use my Laptop both On and Offline from the my companies network, in addition I sometimes connect to the companies networks via a VPN; maybe this is causing an issue.

Hopefully someone out there can help me?!

Cheers.

Windows 7 Windows Update not working

Hi,

I have a Windows 7 system on which Windows Update is not working. I start a Windows Update and it says 'Checking for updates' and it sits there for hours and never comes back with a list of possible updates, which is what I would expect it to do.

So far, I have tried all the Microsoft Fixits I can find, run SFC/ Scannow, which found no problems, run Disk Cleanup in Safe mode and cleaned the Windows Update section. I have also renamed the Software Distribution folder, all to no avail.

The system is a dual boot system. It did have a Windows XP partition and a Windows 7 partition. The problem was on the existing Windows 7 partition, so I performed a brand new Windows installation in the XP partition. I tried a Windows Update in this new partition and had the same problem.

All in all, I've run out of options to try. Does anyone have any other ideas please?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

However, user still manage to go into the Advanced Boot options by pressing F8 key

Group policy workstation lock after idleing

$

Hello

I am in need of some serious help. I created a policy a while ago, it works like a charm. After 15  minutes of idleing, the computer locks itself (GPM -> user policy -> admin templates -> CP -> personolize -> screen savers) and i added a few users to the exception list (delegation) because those computers need to be active all the time. But where i sc##ed up, was that i cant add computers (workstations) to the delegation list. Right now there are 3 computers that desperatly need that policy to be turned off (and manualy adding users to the list wont do, we are talking about a 600 user long list). Can i create or make it somehow, a computer policy, that after 15 minutes of idleing, the computer locks itself, the same way the user policy works. Right now i have to disable that policy and that is a huge security gap. Thank you for your time

Offline Files: Check users CSC integrity before disabling offline files?

$

Hi,

I'm sitting with a big issue at a customer and ask for your help.

Environment:
- 3x Windows 2008 R2 file servers configured in DFS
- approx. 500x Windows 7 clients (Laptops)
- 3x network shares, Common1, Common2 and Homefolder.
- "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection" enabled for entire user profile.
- Everything is controlled by GPOs and there are no login scripts.

Symptom:
Due to some faulty settings in the client GPO and the fact that the "Common" shares was set to allow Offline Caching of files and folders, the majority of clients now suffer from sync issues and conflicts.
Most of the conflicted files are located in the users home folder, but some users are also seeing the same issues with files located on the "Common" shares. The users themselfes are not allowed to enable Offline Files as this is disabled by GPOs. The only folders that should be treated as Offline Files are the ones in the users home folder.

Solution:
A new set of GPOs have been created that correctly set up "Offline Files" and "Folder Redirection". These are linked to a test-OU and the computers and users applied to that OU are not suffering from the problems above.

Question:
When we move a client, the cache will be deleted and all non-sync'd work will be lost.
Today we manually look at every users sync center and try to resolve the conflicts before we move them to the new OU. This is extremely time consuming when we are looking at potentially 500 affected clients.
Is there any way one could check the integrity of the clients CSC/Offline Cache before they get moved to the new OU?
We have SCCM 2012 R2 for inventory but I cant find any good report there. Maybe scripting with PowerShell or VB?

All advices are welcome!

Best regards,
Jimmy

Default printer keeps changing

I've noticed an issue happening with a few Windows 7 machines. They are all running Windows 7 Enterprise. Recently we had moved from a Server 2003 box to a Server 2008 R2 box as our print server. This issue seems to be happening on desktops that don't have location-aware printing.

On the old print server, to deploy a printer we would go into print management, select the printer, then deploy via group policy. To my knowledge there's no way to define a default printer using that method(nor would I want to), and we're not using group policy preferences to deploy these. What happens is every single day people will change their default printer to the printer they want only to find the next day it has changed back to something else (in our case it's usually CutePDF or XPS). This is getting extremely annoying, is there any way to fix this?

Public Documents folders sharing among machines in wireless network

There are 2 machines in the same workgroup/wireless network.  No intention to create a homegroup.  A new user is created on each machine as password protected sharing is enabled.   Both machines are able to see each other in the same workgroup/wireless network.  Both are in the same location(Work, Home, Public) network.  This is the Network and Sharing Centre.

This is the prompt.  Not able to enter the user ID, password to access the public document folders on the machine.

This is the sharing properties of the public documents folder.

Please provide steps to resolve the issue. Same error prompt, sharing properties on both machines. Thanks.

Windows 7 64-bit wuauserv in endless loop

After reviewing other queries on the MS Answers and Technet forums, I'm coming to suspect that this is a fairly widespread issue among Windows 7 users. I've tracked it down on my system to a service, wuauserv, which simply runs forever, taking about 25% of the CPU, and never concludes. Disabling the service cures it but at the expense of preventing all updates.  I doubt if the problem is with the service; I think it is following faulty instructions. This may be due to hiding updates like those to prepare for Windows 10; but restoring all hidden updates did not cure it; "Checking for updates" continues to run endlessly. At this point the only 'solution' seems to be disabling wuauserv and doing without future updates. The alternative is no updates and a drained battery.  I suspect this needs some higher level Microsoft attention. I have tried nearly all of the proposed fixes short of re-installing Windows 7, and none of them have solved the problem.

FWIW I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and the problem appeared somewhere around April 20 without any action on my part that I am aware of.  I have saved the 1.6 megabyte WindowsUpdate.log, but it does not show any obvious problem to my untrained eyes.
