Windows Easy Transfer says I am logged into a temporary profile
MSI Installer error (1)1606 - UNC paths for %appdata% ?
Over at where I work, it looks like a number of unrelated applications have an issue with this when they try to install or configure themselves. I had thought it was a permission issue with non-admin users, but it appears to be related to UNC paths as the errors no longer get thrown if I map a drive to a UNC share (e.g. N:\ mapped to \\fileserver\user) and change a user's profile to point to that drive path (e.g. N:\Desktop) instead of the UNC path (\\fileserver\user\Desktop). The same location, just mapped to differently.
I had this problem initially documented here but absolutely nobody seems to have any idea (I've tried all of the commonly pointed out fixes).
To copy and paste some part of it:
- We use UEV to virtualise a user's profile. They log on and then the following mappings occur:
- User files for their %homeshare% are stored on a network share, under \\fileserver\home$\username\ (e.g. Documents, Desktop, etc.)
- User settings for %appdata% are stored on a network share, under \\fileserver\setting$\username\
- Each user has access to their own shares on the paths above and have full permissions over their area.
Has anyone got any thoughts or insight into this issue? It is just MSI installers and the errors thrown in the msi logs are to do with permissions or being unable to find the path.
Thanks!
Windows 7 Library Issue
Hi there,
I am experiencing an issue with Windows 7 Libraries and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the matter.
The issue is that libraries do not show when a user first logs in or for the first dozen or so reboots or gpupdates. Seemingly randomly, the documents library will appear in explorer.
When the library is not showing the *.library-ms folder is missing from %appdata%/roaming/Microsoft/windows/libraries as expected.
All of a sudden this file will generate itself and the issue is fixed.
How is this file generated? What could be stopping it?
Thanks!
"make available offline" not available (Windows 7 x64)
Hi All,
I am trying to find the option "make available offline" when you right click a folder that has been shared and configured for caching
When I access it from the network as a share I cant even see the option "Always available offline"

Windows Easy Transfer and Outlook
Hello,
I am testing out the Windows Easy Transfer within my network and when I transferred a users profile, it included their Outlook 2007 email account. It still had to load the emails, but their account was already set up. I tested it on a machine with Outlook 2013, and it didn't transfer anything in regards to email. From what I've read, WET isn't supposed to work with Outlook. My question is why would it work perfectly with 2007 and not at all with 2013?
The email addresses are automatically resolved, so I'm wondering if there's a certain setting or file that I can copy with WET that will keep me from having to run through the setup again.
Audio Services would not start. It ends suddenly with error code 1067 stating the process terminated unexpectedly
Hi,
Since April I I am facing the problem where my audio service show a red X. I did all the what the forum states and I just tried to ensure all the dependencies services are started. However, the audio service does not start but shows the error 1067.I have even installed the driver for my sound card SB Live! 24.
I have run out of option but to ask for your help. Can you please help me to resolve this issue. My computer was running smoothly without any problem and suddenly i am facing this issue.

Remote Desktop not working
My host machine has stopped responding when I try to log into it.
Win 7 Pro, 64 bit, latest service pack.
The only different thing I've done is changes the listening port to 9833, but that has been working for years
I recently added bullguard security instead of Norton but I think it was working for a few days before this issue started. I've tried turning off the firewall altogether and that hasn't made a difference.
Typically when remote desktop stops responding, I reboot the machine and everything is good, but I've done that 4 times now with shut downs, not just restarts.
I have confirmed under computer properties that Remote desktop is activated.
Please help
**********************
I've been digging further and it seems as though window firewall was back in play along with bullguard and that was blocking it. I turned off windows firewall and turned back on bullguard and was able to log in.
sooo...
1- if I have the bullguard firewall running do I need the windows firewall?
2- If I should have the windows firewall running too, how do I change the port in windows firewall? While remote desktop is listening fine on 9983, windows firewall is showing the original 3389 as the port. I have to machines here that I get into and use the ports to determine which machine I am accessing.
Thanks,
Howard
Genuine Windows
My copy of Windows Ultimate has been running fine for years, and shows as activated. However, I can't upgrade to Windows 10 because it says my copy of Windows is not Genuine. How to resolve?

User Profile Error, profile will not load! Tried the Microsoft suggestions and didn't help!
Hello all,
I am having the user profile service error failed the logon, user profile cannot be loaded while trying to logon to a domain user name with Windows 7. I have tried unjoining the domain and rejoining and that didn't work. I have also tried looking in the Local Registry under profilepath and that profile isn't even listed (because it's never even been logged onto that particular PC). I really need to get this working. Is there anything else I can do?
Thank you,
Shauna

Computer GPOs not applied - The media is write protected error
Hi All,
I have a Windows 7 Enterprise Ed laptop which does not applies the computer GPOs. User GPOs work fine.
In the event log, Event ID 1125 is logged:
“The processing of Group Policy failed because of an internal system error. Please see the Group Policy operational log for the specific error message. An attempt will be made to process Group Policy again at the next refresh cycle.”
In the Details tab:
Error code 19, “The media is write protected”
- When I run “gpupdate /force” or “gpupdate /target:computer” After a long time, I get the message: “Computer Policy update has not completed in the expected time. Exiting…”
- GPRESULT /H GPReport.html gives: “ERROR: Access Denied” (run as local administrator)
- RSoP.msc: “The RSoP snap-in was unable to generate the RSoP data due to the error listed below. Details: This operation returned because the timeout period expired”
The laptop is part of a large domain (more than 10k clients). This is the only one with this error (for as far as I know…)
Any help would be much appreciated.

13.8 GB System File under C:\Windows
Hi
We currently have a interesting file that's appeared in our domain, under most workstations we have two files each with a random asian character each 13.8 GB each and growing. This is rather frustrating as it can't be deleted (it is locked by multiple processes) and takes up a total of 27 GB on every desktop.
They all appear have been created around the same time (07/12/2015 - 12/12/2015), I've had a look and there's no software installations around that time.
for example:
- we have a file with the name: 耀ª
- Size: 13.8 GB
- Location: C:\Windows
- Created: 11 December 2015
- Last Modified: 29 march 2016
- Type: System File
Can anyone advise?
Thanks,

- tried a solution from hp - deleting a registry key
- tried to delete the files in System32\Printers Folder

0x000005b3 Connect to Printer Error dialog
When adding a Lexmark MS811 printer to a Windows 7 SP1 64-bit machine (it's a shared printer on a server 2008 SP2 64-bit server) I receive an error. I choose the printer, click Next, it briefly says looking for driver, then downloading driver then this error message appears.
Connect to Printer
Windows cannot connect to the printer.
Operation failed with error 0x000005b3
This same shared printer installs fine on several other Windows 7 SP1 machines. I see other people in forums talking about re-imaging the machine, that seems insane but I guess that's my next step if no one has any other ideas for this problem?
I've tried the following with no different results:
Microsoft Fixit 50979 - full version
I tried to install hotfix 412895 (It said it wasn't applicable to my computer)
Tried installing the printer as a Local TCP/IP printer on the Windows 7 computer
Tried both the MS810 & the Universal driver's from Lexmark (each of them on the print server and as a local printer)
Before I tried to install it I cleared the setupapi.app.log file in C:\Windows\inf, here are the entries in that file right after I tried to install the printer again.

You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder...
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can provide a simple answer to this problem.
I am trying to delete a folder (and all of the files in it) and I am getting the following errors:
1. You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder. (Continue/Skip/Cancel)
2. I select Continue
3. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from MyPC\Bob to make changes to this folder. (Try Again/Cancel)
The problem is that I am logged in as MyPC\Bob, and Bob is an Administrator account.
So, how exactly do I ask myself for permission ? And how do I give myself permission ?
Bob has 'Full control' of the folder.
Bob is the owner of the folder.
But Bob cannot delete the folder because Bob has to ask Bob for permission..... /boggle.

Windows 10
I installed windows 10. I don't like it, understand it or want it.
How do I go back to my original OS (windows 7)
I paid for it and want it back.
Windows Explorer copy wrongly offers to merge folders
When copying a folder tree to an empty(!) location using Windows Explorer it often complains about folders already existing in the target location and offers a merge.
This is reproducible on all my machines:
Using Windows Explorer
- select c:\windows
- copy to an empty directory
- Windows shows a dialog "Confirm Folder Replace", offering to merge Windows folder with different create date
I posted about this problem a long time ago, but did not get an explanation.
How to attach VHDs during Windows Startup using specific Drive Letters
Hi all,
I need some help how to attach a set of some VHDs and assigning specific drive letters to them during Startup of Windows. I know Diskpart to some extend. It is OK for attaching but I have no idea how to assign the specific driver letters.
TIA.
