I have read many threads here about the Compressed (Zipped) Folder icon disappearing from the SendTo list and have tried many of the suggestions but have not found the answer to my specific problem yet.
I am running Windows 7 and somewhere in the last six months lost the capability to zip files using the SendTo feature. I still have the ability to create zipped files by right clicking the desktop and making a New zipped file, and extracting also works.
The 'Compressed (zipped) folder.ZFSendToTarget' file is in my [username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo folder and it is not hidden, but the icon for it is a blank page instead of a zipped folder icon and the type is listed as a ZFSENDTOTARGET File instead of 'Compressed (zipped) Folder SendTo Target'. It is the same for all users and the default. I don't think anything has changed with the file itself, just the way the computer recognizes the file and what its supposed to do.
I have no restore points early enough to catch whatever caused the problem. I have tried replacing it with a file from a computer where everything works. I have tried fixing my registry file associations with the information from winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/. I have run the command rundll32 zipfldr.dll, RegisterSendTo but received the error "Error in zipfldr.dll, Missing entry:registersendto". I do not have a Windows 7 installation CD but I tried typing 'sfc /scannow' into an elevated command prompt without the disk and the scan found nothing wrong.
Any other suggestions for restoring functionality are very welcome.
