explorer.exe memory usage grows until "There is not enough free memory to run this program. Exit one or more programs, and then try again."

I am currently running Windows 7-64. Recently I noticed when typing in the start button no results would appear. When I clicked the "See more results" option I would get the following error:

"There is not enough free memory to run this program. Exit one or more programs, and then try again."

In addition, I could no longer navigate folders. In general other installed applications seem to work fine. I found restarting the system fixes the problem. Killing and restating the explorer.exe process also fixes the problem. Then a few days later the problem returns.

I can also watch the explorer.exe process continue to use more and more memory. It starts at about 30MB's and within a few hours it's working set is 1.2GB and Private working set is 200+ MB. The system currently has plenty of disk space and 16GB of RAM....

Any Ideas?
