Installing printer using driver from Windows Update fails

Hello all,

Trying to perform a very simple task...

Using the Add printer wizard > Add a Local Printer > Use existing LPT1 port

If I "choose a printer from the list" the printer installation works successfully

If I click on "Windows Update" and try and install a print driver this way the installation starts but always fails with this error:

"Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed (error 0x80240022)"

I checked this out and it's meant to be caused by a Point and Print restriction however we are not using PnP restrictions as far as I know.

I also found that we were deploying this setting via Group Policy: "Turn off downloading of printer drivers over HTTP"  but switching this off also seems to have had little affect.

I'm not actually installing a printer as such just the testing the ability to do this as we want to hand over the installation of printers to some of our users...so there is no physical device that's causing an issue - it happens on all of the drivers I've selected from "Windows Update" so far.

Any tips or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

C
