I have an HP DesignJet 800. It is on the network, and successfully printing from a Windows XP (x86) machine. The firmware is up to date, and the driver on the XP machine is up to date. The printer is being shared from the XP machine.
When I go to \\myXpMachine in Explorer from my workstation (Windows 7 Professional x86), I can see the printer share. I then right click the printer share, and click 'Connect'. A windows pops up that says 'Connecting to myPrinter on myXpMachine', 'Finishing the installation...'.
It just hangs there. I've let it sit overnight, and nothing happens. No error is ever shown, and the window never closes. If I click cancel, the window will go away. In devices and printers, it appears to be connected; however, when I try to print, I get an error that the printer is no longer connected.
I have tried manually installing the driver on my workstation before connecting, but get the same result.
Yes, I could setup the printer on my workstation the same way it is setup on the XP machine - but that's not the goal.
There are other printers shared from the XP machine - and I can successfully connect to them from my workstation.
This is in a domain environment.
Anyone else run across this kind of scenario?
