Hi Guys - you are my last hope. I have tried everything I can find on the internet to no avail. I'm not a novice. I'm running W7 professional V6.1 64 bit with SP1.
Every time you use a browser from within a program (like MS Word when looking for a doc to open but other programs as well) before the browser opens a white message box appears and disappears again almost instantly. I eventually found that it said "Windows Installer - preparing to install". I have looked in services.msc - WI is set to Manual and is running (though if it is not running the box still appears!). I have no problem with windows update nor with installing programs. I have tried "msiexec /unregister" and registered it again. I have tried renaming the installer folder from within windows system32 and replacing it with a new one. I have tried the Microsoft fixes. I've tried it in safe mode where, when right clicking on the desktop to change the resolution, the box appears and stays until cancel is clicked when eventually you get another box saying "Explorer.exe - the remote procedure call failed". I have scanned the computer fully with Avast, Windows malicious software tool, Spybot, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. The system is totally clear they tell me. There is no repair system on the Windows7 installation CD and I do not want to re-install so - any ideas?
