theorical question about the piptones at startup when the computer does power on self test

hi,

I see that every kind bios has its own piptones number and explanation to give some sign for defected part.  I have downloaded the manual of  the tree bios  brand (AMI ,AWARD,PHOENIX)  to know how to solve some problems with piptones at startup  whitout  using third party tools .

now I tried to remove the memory from my laptop just to see if my bios wil  make any piptones or give a sign that I have problem  with memory  . but I don't hear  or see any piptones.

I did this  experiment to see if my memory if it comes  defect or not work  that my bios wil make any piptones or not.

so now my question  is  ,is there  a difference between defected and removed memory  that   the power on self test  wil recognize  and thats why it didn't  make any  piptones when I removed the memory from my laptop !

any explanation why the bios didn't make any piptones when I removed the memory from my laptop.

thanks

johan
