Admin w/o Admin privileges

$

So i came across something very troubling on my computer recently. I am not much of a tech wizard but i think this picture should give a bit of info(okay sorry no pic). Basically the pic was an image of my last windows update which was mid june, and the last check for one which was in early july. I would normally spring on that but i don't have administrator privileges for some reason.

I did try to create another account to see if that worked but it didn't, but i still for some reason have the ability to give other accounts admin privileges.

I am the system admin by the way, not part of a network or anything this is my personal computer. I also built it so i don't really have much manufacturing info....

I find this really weird because i can use basically all the admin tools, i just can't update my computer from what it seems.

I get the feeling i have been hacked, i would restore my computer but i can only restore to about a week ago. Which is to my last driver update.

"Windows 10 Media Creation Tool Cannot be run on this computer"

When I found out Windows 10 had come out, the Get Windows 10 App was not on my taskbar in the bottom right. I am running Windows 7 SP1 64-Bit and my system is up to date. So I decided to head over to Microsoft.com and download the media creation tool (x64), and I ran it. Once it got to 99% of "Downloading Windows 10", it said "This tool cannot be run on this computer. I have no malware, viruses or anything of the sort, and am connected to the Internet. So I went in to Safe Mode with Networking and ran the tool then. It didn't even get to 5% before saying the same message as before. Is there any way of fixing this?

I don't know how to upload my minidump files and couldn't find out how if someone can quickly teach me as this is my first post ever.

Hi guys, got a question for you all: do you know a RELIABLE way to execute a script BEFORE entering hibernation/sleep (on Windows 7)?

I need also to execute some other script on resume... and both script are network related, so they have to check for network availability before doing their job...

Bye

Failed to remove printer driver.

Hi, we're experiencing printer driver problems on our Windows 7 x64 SP1 machines.

When we try to remove different printer driver packages we receive this errors:

Failed to remove driver HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v5.2). The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove driver HP Universal Printing PCL 6. The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove package hpcu111u.inf. Driver package is in use.

and

Failed to remove driver Kyocera Classic Universaldriver. The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove package oemsetup.inf. Driver package is in use.

We tried almost all suggested solutions we could find on the net like:
- stop / start spooler
- msconfig disabling all non Microsoft services
- cleanspl.exe
- http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistaprinting/thread/14994b03-7549-4dcc-820c-2076402f7ee2
- logged on as every user, deleted both the printer and the driver
- http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/trying-to-un-ininstall-print-driver-error-message/b478c408-6175-462d-96d0-5be56e61a7de
- disabling bidirectional support
- http://www.skidzopedia.com/2009/04/06/how-to-fix-cannot-remove-or-delete-network-printer-error-in-windows/
- RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /dd /c \\machine /m "AGFA-AccuSet v52.3" /h "Intel" /v "Windows 2000"
- printui /s /t2
- and probably other solutions that didn't help ...

Does anyone have some other idea how to remove printer driver package? We really need this because we're experiencing some troubles with old drivers and we'd like to update them.

Remote Desktop

I am able to establish Remote Desktop to ONE Remote Computer,

I am NOT able to establish Remote to ANOTHER Remote computer ON THE SAME LAN as the first computer.

BOTH computers run Win7 Pro and are configured EXACTLY the same way to accept Remote Desktop (Permissions, UserId's etc)

I have Forwarded SEPARATE ports for each computer to the respective LAN IP Addresses (which are static).

Any Suggestions as to why one computer accepts Remote Desktop and the other does no?

Offline file sync try to sync other user files and folder and failed with access denied or files already in use

Hi

We have few laptops (windows 7 pro) for sales rep and Offline file enable to sync their documents which are on SBS 2011 server.

I don't know why it try to sync some other users (My video , My music , etc ) files and error says "access denied" or
“The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”

we have tried many times and confirm there's no one using those files but still same error

I found this article on forumbut not sure how much this valid to SBS 2011, and if it's known issue why not there's fix patch yet from Microsoft

On the 2003 server I had to ADD this reg entry and set it to 0:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters\
OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD 0 or 1
Default: 0 (not disabled)

And then Changed this entry to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 0 or 1
Default: 1 (enabled)

Kernel Event Tracing - Possibly The Basis of Problem?

$

Not sure if this is the most proper forum, the other choice being Performance, but oh well. I am having a problem that just appeared a few days ago where my Windows 7 Pro boots about halfway, with the background coming up and a couple startup apps start normally, but then the process stops. Roughly half the services start, and the system wedges in place, requiring a restart. Sometimes it's so bad that a hard power-off is required.

I am severely disabled due to Lou Gehrig's Disease and absolutely require that the system start properly and bring up my eyegaze control software. Anything less is a critical error. Nevertheless, prior to medical retirement, I was a career IT professional for 20 years, running UNIX, Linux, PC and Mac mixed shops and can converse in jargon.

I think these might be the errors at the basis of my problem, although Windows Event Viewer messages are notoriously cryptic without a manual. The event error messages are below:

The error is about the particular app (Lifemate):
<l > <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

</Event>

The app normally works perfect on my Win 7-32 and I know it also works in 64.

Right before I get a Kernel-PNP warning and after I get two User Profile Service warnings involving my Avast antivirus then two Service Control Manager errors. Various other entries occur until the computer was restarted, which came up normally and successfully.

The event logged when the computer crashed and the problem began is this:

Locate link browser window in Windows 7 and Outlook 2003

$

Every time I click on a link in an email in Outlook, a "locate link browser" window appears.  There's a lot of help on the web to fix it for Win XP, but those steps don't appear to work for Windows 7.

Here are some URL's of what I've tried already:
 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/821692
 http://www.slipstick.com/problems/firefox.htm
(Some of these link refer to the DDE options in the advanced settings, but in Windows 7, the Control Panel's "Set Associations" screen doesn't have any advanced options.)

The "locate link browser" window is asking for an exe file...  so, I pointed the "locate link browser" window to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe" and the window isn't coming up anymore, but it just launches IE and my home page...  not the link that was in the email.  I also tried setting the default browser as Firefox (using the Control Panel's "Set Associations")  .  That works fine.  the links from Outlook emails open fine in Firefox, but when I switch the default browser for the HTTP protocol (using the Control Panel's "Set Associations")  back to IE, it goes back to launching IE and my home page and not the link that was in the email.

Any idea on how to resolve this?

I'd like to set this time for the middle of the night so it doesn't impact daytime performance.  I can't seem to find a way to set the time it rebuilds the index.  Please advise.

Problems saving Windows Settings after joing new Server 2012 Domain

You cannot vote on your own post
This was originally posted in the Server 2012 forum, but perhaps it's more applicable to Windows 7.

I've joined the Windows 7 Pro workstations to the Domain using the SERVER2012/Connect app and that seemed to work fine.  I made the Users all Standard, not Admin, and access to the Shared folders is working fine too.  Users appear to be in the Administrators group on the local machine, which is what I need.

However, a number of our applications aren't working correctly ... one writes changes to HKey Current User and those changes will not stick.  Some IE sites that require changes have to be made each time; those changes don't save.  Some of the ODBC connections to SQL databases are behaving strangly as well.  I tried checking permissions on the Windows Registry keys, and they looked OK.  Turning off User Access Control did not help either.

If I log on to the workstation not using the Domain Account I don't have this problem.  And, one of the workstations which had performed the Windows 10 Upgrade while connected to the previous Domain Controllder works fine.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!   Thx DMiller
