Windows 7 Printing via Server Query

Hi guys,

In the company that I work for, we use a 'print anywhere' system for printing.

This uses a central server which the client PCs are connected to. The printer is shared through Microsoft Share. This server is shared by around 2000 users at one time. Only on Windows 7 computers we have the shared printer as being “offline” at times. So a user will try to print and it will display the printer is offline message. Windows XP does not generate this error. We have a theory it is due to the way XP deals with Network devices compared to Windows 7. Windows XP keeps trying where Windows 7 tries for a shorter period and gives up and displays the printer is offline message. This does not happen often but as we are migrating over to Windows 7 more and more people are reporting it.

We have had Canon involved as we are using Uniflow. Canon have stated the issue is not with the server. Also the server is always online.

I wanted to ask, is there a way of setting the client PC up (I would guess it's a registry setting) to allow the job to sit on the PC and wait for the server to come back online again, rather than giving the user error messages when they try to print? (Many of the users in my organisation are not highly experienced in IT so minimal input from their side is important if possible).
