I have a staff member that has a Windows 7 x64 desktop and accesses a windows server 2003 which is a "print server". A server was chosen to serve this printer because we want to have security and sharing to limit who can print. This currently works find for the other Windows XP clients in the office. It also works fine for me on my Windows 7 x32 desktop.
The printer is an HP LaserJet 8100N.
When I try to do the install, I get an error that says a suitable driver cannot be located for this printer. So, I have gone to HP, and they don't have a specific driver, but I went ahead and downloaded the Universal Driver. I still get the same error.
I wanted to see what would happen if I connected the printer directly, so I went ahead and connected via a port, I get the message that a suitable driver cannot be found, so I browse the list... I get the list of HP printers and I do not see any HP laesrjet 8100 printers.
So, I found an article on this site that referred to the support catalog:
So I have downloaded the latest 8100N Driver and then tried both types of installs and had no luck.
I also found a kb article 982728. I am wondering if this hotfix would work... I thought I would ask as I don't have a test system and I really want to put a fix on that I know works rather than just keep trying till I find something.
I appreciate your help.
***** update *****
I tried installing this on another system. Very slightly different.. It is a Windows 7 Ultimate Client SP1 - and the other Client is Windows 7 Pro SP1. The install on the Ultimate machine went perfect. So... what could be the difference?
Thanks...
