How do I fix the open in new tab/window problem?

I have been trying to figure out how to describe the frustrating new tabs/windows in IE8 that I have been experiencing, since I installed W7RC.  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/323918fb-2b1d-42c8-87af-e218b9217da5?prof=required  Has been the closest to what I am experiencing.

The one thing I still have not seen posted that I am also experiencing is that when I click the little "down arrow" beside the "back" and "forward" buttons, my recent history does not show up there.  I have to open favorites and click the history tab.  Like you, i have always relied on my "open in new tab/window" feature as well as the little recent history icon.

I do have to say, I have had this problem since June when I installed RC7; but it's not that simple...Upon installing RC7, I had only one user on the computer, me, the administrator.  Even with the issue, I continued to use IE8 and FF3.4 because I didn't have time to stop and try to figure this mess out. I have tried just about everything described in your 07/01 entry, except for the DLL stuff.  I tried the first step you did and got the same "access denied" error. **I'M THE FREAKING ADMINISTRATOR**   The first week of July, I decided to create a 2nd account on my computer that I would use everyday, and keep the administrator profile only for making changes to the computer.  (I read that using your administrator account as your primary account can wreak havoc over time)  Well in my new, non-administrator account, IE8 worked WONDERFULLY...for about 3 weeks. //the administrator account IE8 has yet to work properly//

Friday night, I installed all the Windows Live stuff, and Skype, because my hubby and I are interested in video calling his parents who just moved about 1000mi. away.  BAM!!--The exact problems began duplicating on my 2nd account.

Since then I have uninstalled, Skype (I read in another forum that Skype can cause the issue), all Windows Live stuff, and disabled all the add-ons, re-booted, cold started, uninstalled, reinstalled, and removed all McAfee programs, all to no avail.

If anyone has any new ideas that can be gathered from this information, please respond.  I don't care how crazy it sounds, I'll try it.  I believe in a God that uses the strange and crazy to confound the wise.  Not to say that I'm that wise, it's more that I'm at my wits end.  (& yes I would stick with FF if my school programs, bank, and some bill payments would run on FF.) TIA!!

I've now tried a couple of other things:

Open “DCOMCNFG” to open up the Component services
Expand ‘component services’ and ‘computers’ and right hand click on ‘properties’
This would open the properties for My Computer and click on “Default Properties”
Ensure that
Default Authentication Level is
“Connect”
Default Impersonation Level is
“Identify”
My properties were already set to these levels.

And:

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:

1.       Carefully select and then copy the following command:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

2.       Click Start, and then type Cmd.exe in the Start Search box.

3.       In the list of programs, right-click Cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

4.       Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.

5.       Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.

6.       When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer

1.       After you restart your computer, open Internet Explorer.

2.       Click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu. If Internet Explorer 6 or 7 appears in the About Internet Explorer dialog box, then you are finished with this article.

3.       If Internet Explorer 8 is not removed, or you cannot open Internet Explorer 6 or 7, you can contact support

I got a nice error message stating that "Files of tiyp"M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum" non found."

I am finally able to use IE8 with the "recent" button working and tabs working if I choose to "run as administrator"  I  even have to do that when I'm logged in as the administrator.  What gives??
Anyway, I thought I would add that.  Is it an IE8 thing or W7rc thing?  I've seen that others are having problems with IE8 that use different Windows OS.  oh, and to be safe, I have to install some security.  I hope it holds up after I install McAfee again.  Please, if you can think of anything else, please let me know.  I can't wait to purchase W7 because I'm loving it, but alas, that won't be until October...
