Hi,
We have the following issue, users work on documents, then could be word documents or even txt files, when attempting to save it works fine but every now and then they receive the following error.
"(filename) is read-only.Do you want to save changes to a different file name?"
We currently have Windows 7 deployed to all our machines with either office 2007 or office 2010, however the problem happens with notepad and other applications as well so don't think this is related to a bug in office.
this users mainly work on mapped drives that are part of a DFS. Permissions are correct.
To replicate the issue we can open a document, make change and click save, keep repeating this on the same document and eventually we will recieve the error.
We are currently testing the AV to see if that is the problem, howevere Mcafee is set to not scan network shares.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
**Update
After further troubleshooting we have found the following, when saving a file to the network share and accessing it via the unc path we are able to save over the file multiple times with no issues, save the file to the local machine and no issues. The moment we map the shared folder and access the file via the mapped drive we start recieving random read only errors when saving the file. If we keep clicking ok and then save it will eventually save.
This happens with all office documents as well as notepad.
To rule out server 2008 I have created a share on another laptop on the same switch and am able to reproduce the error.
**Update
We have disabled Mcafee Access Protection and On-Access Scanner but the result is the same, you hit save and it reports the file is read only, keep selecting save and it eventually saves.
**Update
Issue has been resolved, Mcafee DLP was causing this. After removing DLP file saving is working correctly.
My experience with the Mcafee products so far has been terrible :(
