I am running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit and have a network drive mapped and set as "Always available offline". The drive is a samba share on a local linux server of the entire /home directory. My Windows 7 PC has an empty Raid 1 device which I am storing backups on. I would like to configure Windows 7 to also backup the data from the network to the local drive. I have tried creating a library as well as adding the drive to the existing documents library and successfully browsed the files through the library. I have configured Windows 7 backup to "Let Windows choose" and "Let me choose" however backup always fails with the message:
Error code: 0x8100002F
Windows Backup skipped Z:\ because it cannot be found on drive Z:\.
It looks like Windows 7 is not capable of backing up a network drive, only backing up TO a network drive as I can not even brows to C:\Windows to try and include the sync folder C:\Windows\CSC in the backup app. I would love to be able to accomplish automated daily backups of my Linux servers and manage them from my PC. If the software bundled with Windows 7 can not do this does anyone have suggestions for free or cheap but reliable Windows 7 based backup software than can backup a network drive?
Hopefully, if Windows 7 Backup can not do this they will in the future and maybe even give an ETA. Then, I can say Windows 7 was my idea.
