Will extracting files from system image using "Attach VHD" corrupt the image?

I noticed that when you attach the VHD, the modified date of the VHD changes. I was wondering, is there a risk that the system image at some point will not work for recovery anymore after doing this a couple of times? That it gets confused because files changes? (If they do?)
Of course you shouldn't manually delete or change anything, but only extract. However thumbs.db files and such might change. Will it get confused?
