Windows 7 Hangs After Welcome Screen

About five months ago the workstations in our network started stalling at the Welcome Screen. Our fix is to restore back to the most recent restore point. This has worked (KOW) without incident. After reading many posts about the subject, and implementing others fixes, we are still without resolution. A bit of background info, (more at the end of this post) the network has five W7ProSP1 64bit workstations. There is a 2003 R2 server used for file sharing only. This network has been running without issue for almost two years. We've turned off MS updates. Ensured MS Defender is not installed. A new switch was installed to test the problem without success. And the most "thrilling" part of this problem is that it is intermittent amongst the workstations. All are shutdown every night. Yet only a few will encounter the Welcome Screen Stall at the start of any day. Sometimes a week will go by without event for a few. There has been no changes to the PC's or their software. Users have been practicing safe-internet browsing habits.

Using Dell Optiplex workstations and Poweredge T410 server on a wired network. Avast Pro anti-virus as local installation.

Any suggestions are gratefully accepted.
