I have an HP Pavilion which came with Vista and was updated to Windows Seven Professional (64 bit) a few years ago. Early this month (July 2014) my wired network connection failed to provide internet services. My wireless connection does provide internet services.
My setup: I have a local domain and two servers. I have a cable modem connected to a wired router and then to an additional 12 port switch. I have a wireless router connected to the LAN. I have a ROKU device connected to the LAN. I have several older computers running Windows 2000 and Windows XP connected to the LAN.
And then I have this HP laptop running Windows Seven connected to the LAN (but now through the wireless router only).
The wired LAN connection suddenly stopped providing internet services. If I enable the wireless connection, I cannot obtain internet services unless I either disable the wired interface or unplug it.
I have tried several suggested steps including ipconfig /release /renew /flushdns, etc. I have tried netsh winsock reset.
I have updated the wired interface drivers.
Both interfaces show identical setup configurations except, of course, for the machine IP address, which is different through the wireless router.
What surprises me the most is that even when I have internet through the wireless connection, it disappears when I enable or plug in the wired interface.
NOTE: I have access to all LAN resources with either interface or both interfaces enabled. Only internet access is affected.
Any new suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
