Win7 Pro x64: Boots into Black Screen with mouse cursor, no taskmanager, no shortcuts work

Hi,

I have a strange problem with a laptop running Win7 Pro x64 that previously worked fine, but which was interrupted (battery empty) during Windows update.

The system boots normally, but I do not see a welcome screen, and no user login screen. Instead, the system goes to a black screen after the Windows startup logo, and displays only a normal mouse cursor. No keyboard shortcuts do work, that means:

- no Taskmanager (Ctrl-Alt-ESC)

- no Login Screen (Ctrtl-Alt-Del)

- no rightclick

- no "Press Leftshift five times"

etc., none of these do work.

Safe mode, low resolution mode, etc. all show the same issue.

I already did a boot from a Windows 7 DVD, tried to autofix, but that does not help. chkdsk /r /f runs fine. The Winlogon-entry is correctly set to explorer.exe in the registry. No viruses found (using Kaspersky rescue disk). SFC /scannow does not work at all, it always tells me that a repair is pending, reboot does not solve this (SFC from the command prompt started from the Win7 DVD).

I don't know what else to try. There are no system restore points on this system, and I do not want to reinstall, but I want to understand why Windows fails to boot.

Any hints what else to try? Thank's a lot...
