I have found out that to create a .prn file, you must install the generic/text only printer driver, which is found in the dropdown menu when you add a printer.
The manufacturer name is "Generic". The printer name is Generic/text only. I set it as the default printer.
I open my WP document. File, Print, (click the print to file box) and click on print.
If it works properly, there should be an "Output file name" box to come up on the screen, allowing you to give the .prn file a name.
You then are given the chance to browse and place this newly created .prn file in the folder of your choice.
In order to edit the .prn file to check formatting etc..., you must open the .prn file in notepad.
Once changes are made (if needed), click Save.
I open the Reporter's Edition of the E-tran Software, add this .prn file to the folder and send it to the CR firm to run through E-tran.
It is sent to me after processing through the E-tran software as a .ptx file.
This file can only be opened through the E-tran bundle viewer, which is downloaded from their website.
Once opened, I am able to print my transcripts and send them to my clients.
Why is it that when I follow this procedure, the .prn file is empty...0kb?
That is my issue. I have WP Office 6 and a Windows 7 OS. HELP!!
