I am trying to rebuild by search index because my computer won't let me arrange items using the "Arrange By" option... However, when I try and load my indexing options to rebuild the index it will sit there and say "Waiting to receive indexing
status". If I click the "Advanced" button it will freeze... I also receive an icon and loading display problem
SEE PIC#1. Also when I click on "My Computer" it sometimes will sit there searching and it won't load.
SEE PIC#2
I have tried the following:
1. Restarting the "Windows Search" service multiple times at different boots.
2. Deleting the files contained in the folder "C:\Windows\System32\config\TxR\".http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2484025
3. Stopping the "Windows Search" service then I opened up "regedit". I went to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSearch, SetupCompletedSuccessfully" I changed the value from a 0 to a 1. Then I rebooted my PC. I then went back to the same key and changed it back to a 0 and rebooted my PC again.
4. Turning the "indexing service" on and off from the "Turn Windows Features on or off" menu.
5. Microsoft Fixit Indexing Troubleshooter
6. Sfc /scannow
7. Tried this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977380
8. Tried another user account and creating a new user account
9. Tried resetting folder view to "defaults" http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/15692-folder-view-settings-reset-all-default.html
I really need ALL of these problems fixed... They obviously all come from one issue but the only problem is idk how to fix it =( Please help!
Also I know for a fact a "repair" will NOT work so didn't even suggest it because this problem popped up because I repair installed my computer (The "Arrange By" option just doesn't work so maybe the registry has a key that can be edited to fix this that is disable by default)... Thanks
PS: I am sorting by name, grouping by (none), and below is a screenshot of what happens when I change the "Arrange By" option to arrange by song. As you can see nothing changes it still arranges by folder... SEE PIC#3
Also note in the picture "song" is highlighted but I already left-clicked it...
PSS: I only only experienced the file display/disappearing and loading issues when I deleted the files located in the TxR folder to fix the arrange by issue. I forgot to mention that I noticed in my Event Viewer that there were some logs that kept appearing that might pertain to the issue. Here is a list of the logs that I think appear the most often:
1. Error Event ID 7006 Service Control Manager: The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied.
2. Error Event ID 2 Kernel-EventTracing: Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035
3. Error Event ID 7001 Service Control Manager: The Computer Browser service depends on the Workstation service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
4. Error Event ID 10 WMI: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
5. Error Event ID 10010 DistributedCOM: The server {7D096C5F-AC08-4F1F-BEB7-5C22C517CE39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
