I used to have a Windows XP laptop and I was able to share files with my Win XP desktop. Two YEARS ago I got a Win 7 laptop and I tried doing the same with it but I can only access files that are in a folder called Shared Documents in my desktop. I usually
just deal with it but the other day I decided I would work out how to access everything between the computers. Fast forward many hours later and I still can't open anything but Shared Documents.
Except now when I'm on my laptop I tried saving a photo to My Pictures and it wouldn't have it. Access denied. Same for My Music and My Videos. The icons look like shortcuts now. They have little arrows in the bottom.
I'm the only person who uses this computer. I tried logging in as Administrator and noticed the folders had Read Only checked so I unchecked that. I logged back in as me and still couldn't access my own files.
Honestly I am souring to the whole idea of Windows. This is ridiculous. Never again; I'll get Ubuntu next.
I found some instructions online that people said worked for them, but when I tried, I didn't have the same options. For example they said go to Control Panel then System and Security, then Administrative. Well mine only said System and then no option for Administrative.
Please tell me how I can at least access my own folders on my own computer and if you can help me with the networking thing, too, that would be great.
