SOLVED:Windows Mobile-based device and Canon Powershot cameras showing code 19 and MTP USB Device failed.

$

We have some symbol windows mobile-based handheld devices that we use in our business.  We connect these devices to our computers to copy files to.  This all worked fine until recently the devices come up as failed.

It appears in device manager with a yellow exclamation point.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.  (Code 19)

I've tried all the solutions I can find on the web and none of them work.

Including:

Uninstall the device in device manager and scan for changes.  It downloads the driver from windows-update and returns to code 19.

Tried hardware troubleshooter which basically seems to automate the process of uninstalling and scanning.

I've tried removing windows media player 12 feature and adding it back.

I've tried deleting USB controllers from Device Manager and rebooting, it re-detects them all and still gets code 19 on the device.

I've tried deleting upper and lower filter values in the registry which I found out later is mainly for CD/DVD devices, that didn't fix anything.

I've tried removing and re-installing Windows Mobile Device Center and driver pack and that did not fix it either.

Additionally Canon Powershot camera gives us similar results.  MTP USB Device failed.

This is so far happening on 3 of our workstations that we know of.

At first we thought it was due to windows updates but nothing recent has been installed that looks related and we installed all available updates on a laptop with a fresh install of windows 7 and it does not exhibit this problem.

We also thought it might be Forefront Endpoint Protection as we just started installing that about 3 weeks ago.  However, that was also installed on the laptop with the fresh copy of Windows 7 and did not cause any problems.

We've run out of options other than to try a repair install of windows 7 which I'd like to avoid, especially if this turns up on more than the 3 computers.

Hi,

I did an automatic update last week and now my computer restarts everytime I shut it down through the Microsoft menu.  Can anyone help me correct this problem.  It work fine for years and now I have to shut down the computer manually with the power button.  What happened to my system?  Did the update cause this to happen or do I have a virus?

Thank you

Windows 7 backup fails with error code: 0x8007054F

I want to use Windows 7 Backup and Restore to backup files to a shared drive on a Mac server. I can browse to the network share from the Windows 7 computer without a problem.

I configured the backup settings and kicked it off. After several hours it stopped and reported that it did not complete successfully. The error code reported is 0x8007054F. No other details are provided.

I can't find anything that tells me exactly what this error means. It seems to be pretty generic. Can anyone help?

Two bluetooth dongles, a usb female to male adaptor, to replace a simple usb wire.

Hi,

In an abstract sense I wonder if a regular usb lead, can be replaced with two bluetooth dongles and a female-to-male usb adapter.

More specifically, I am simply trying to replace the wire I normally use to connect pc with printer.

Why should I need to buy more expensive equipment, such as printer servers, etc etc...

Is it really not possible to buy to simple pair of bluetooth dongles [possigly identical] and use this as a replacement virtual wire?

I would have thought that if the printer can power up its dongle, this should have been possible.

I really wonder why people didnt think of this before:

just to sell dedicated bluetooth dongle pairs, one with a female plug, the other with a male plug, such that the two could be used as a virtual usb wire.

Please excuse my ignorance, and allow for my frustration. This is an honest question.

Many thanks,

Mike.

Backing up (and restoring) user profiles to Google Drive

Hi guys,

I stumbled onto this article today and wanted to share and also ask if anyone has done anything similar. This person is using Folder Redirection group policy to redirect user profiles to Google Drive folder. Would you guys consider doing something like this? What would be advantages/disadvantages of this considering that no roaming profile is currently in place and there's no limitation on available Google Drive storage?

How to stop applications reopening after a restart?

Hi all,

When restarting a machine via the SCCM restart window (following installation of Windows updates), upon logging back into the machine I'm finding apps, documents, web pages etc are all being restored exactly as they were prior to the restart, as if the state of the machine if being saved and restored. Why is this happening? I can't find any SCCM client setting for this behaviour, so I'm guessing it's something in Windows 7 - but I don't appear to be able to find the cause.

Can anyone advise?

"User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

I just spend a long time fighting this problem and wanted to share how I fixed.

I was seeing this error on a Win7 standalone system (local profiles, not logging into a domain).  I had two profiles on it that worked fine, but if I tried to create a new profile, I would be unable to logon to it and would get the "User Profile Service failed the logon" message.

I tried the steps in KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 but they did not fix the problem.

After looking through the event logs, I found the following 1509 error in the Application log:

Windows cannot copy file \\?\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM\iesqmdata_setup0.sqm to location\\?\C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\SQM\iesqmdata_setup0.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

 DETAIL - Access is denied.

After binging iesqmdata_setup0.sqm I ran across this article:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/e87aafae-c3aa-48df-b188-0ba161fcb9c7

The suggestion there:

"I suggest you check the Advanced Security Settings for the C:\Users\Default folder. Ensure you check the box "Replace all child object permission with inheritable permissions from this object"."

Fixed this problem for me.  I am now able to logon with the newly created accounts just fine.

Hopefully this will help others as well!

This screen pops up as soon as I turn on wireless and connect to the Internet.  It started this morning after I downloaded what I thought was a "Print to PDF" application from www.digitaltrends.com.  Instead, I got a bunch of apps included Bubble Dock, Chromium, Driver Restore, and more.  I was able to uninstall everything except a folder labeled Coupoon.

Keep getting 'bootmgr is missing' message

Hello, I'm after some advice. I've been getting this error message quite frequently over the past few months. It seems to happen every couple of weeks or so.

I had a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine when this first started happening. I work in IT so naturally I knew I could fix it by loading the Windows 7 disk and running the bootrec command, which did fix it at the time but a few weeks later it popped up again. I am able to fix this temporarily by using the bootrec command but it has not resolved my issue fully.

I thought upgrading to Windows 10 would do the trick in case there were missing or corrupted system files, but yesterday I saw the dreaded message again 3 weeks since I upgraded.

The only thing I can think of is that it could be the setup of my hard drives. I have 4 physical disks that are set up as standalone drives, no RAID used. My OS is stored on a 256GB SSD, with 3 other HDDs used for data, games and virtual storage. I checked the setup of each drive and my SSD is the only one set as my primary active drive.

I'm literally stumped! Can anyone offer some advice or give me an idea what else I could check?

Hi Team,

Hoping you would provide more insights on this issue.

1) Tried installing KB2541119 on a Windows 7 machine. It gave a message "The update is not applicable to your computer". See below error logs.

2) Upon further research, it is found that a windows security update causing this problem. Uninstalled KB3072633 (which was already present on the machine) and then tried installing KB2541119, then it got installed successfully.

I suspect there is some kind of conflict between KB3072633 and KB2541119. Could you take a look?

Event Viewer logs:

Windows update  could not be installed because of error 2149842967 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe"  c:\Users\LocalAdmin\Downloads\Windows6.1-KB2541119-v3-x86.msu /log:"C:\users\localadmin\downloads\new folder\log2.evtx"")

The error code 0x80240017 means “0x80240017 WU_E_NOT_APPLICABLE Operation was not performed because there are no applicable updates.”

Direct Access is working on a 7 and 8.1 Ent PCs on my Server 2012 R2 network. I added another user and a Win 7 Ent. laptop to the direct access clients group. I did a gpupdate /force and verified that a certificate had been made for the new DA client. The Direct Access Connectivity assistant says "Corporate Connectivity is not Working".

I have attached the log below:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Windows 7 x64 Pro workstation, third party application (IFAS) was running fine till couple days ago. User has error message as shown in screenshot.

1. Logon as different user, the application ran fine.

2. Uninstall/install application did not help

It looks like Visual C++ Runtime Error only effected this user, as we tested logon with different accounts having no problem. How do I troubleshoot and resolve this? third party vendor suggesting to reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime but the solution does not seem right because MS Visual C++ runtime OK with other logon accounts.

Thank you,

Thang Mo

Win7 IE10 AutoConfigURL registry being cleared intermttently

We have a Win 7 client Win2k8r2 DC, IE10/Chrome environment and pushing a PAC file URL through GP with Admin Template setting reg key KCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings -

AutoConfigURL
Value typeREG_SZ
Value data

http://pacfile.pac

We have observed it intermittently disappear only to run "gpupdate /force" and it returns.

Is there a way to set or view logs/actions that show when the registry key is set/cleared?

Force SFC to Run in Windows 7

Is there a way to force SFC /SCANNOW command to run even if there is a system repair "flag" set ? I keep getting "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart ..." . The problem is that i cannot boot into windows normally and keeps reseting, and giving me the option to boot normally or start a system repair , which can't do a thing.

I tried Safe Mode and it hangs up and resets at CLASSPNP.SYS . I disabled autoreset and i get a BSOD with an error concerning the verification of a "KnownDLL" that ended with failure.

Tried running Repair > CMD > SFC  from Repair disc, tried running from ERD commander > CMD , or the SFC shortcut with same result. I've installed the hdd on another system , booted with the Win7 of that computer and tried running SFC /Scannow /Offbootdir=xxx /offwindir=xxx  , and got same message.

Recover BitLocker volume information from a damaged hard drive

Hi!

I am running Windows 7 Enterprise with Bitlocker.

Unfortunately I ran into problems booting up and eventually it looked like the harddrive (SSD) was malfunctioning. My backup solution was fresh so I haven't given it much thought, just replaced the drive, but I would still like to know if it's possible to recover data from the drive while it's encrypted with Bitlocker?

I have searched the net for info but none of them seem to focus on my problem; the drive itself shows no volume information, so I'm unable to run any decryption protocols on it. Therefore I'm unable to run any recovery software on it either.

I'm afraid I might've made the situation worse with my attempts at recovery, but still, any help is appreciated!

Windows 7 64-bit "Windows Resource Protection did not find an integrity violations" - still get BSD

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Dell laptop.  Windows performed an upgrade and after the upgrade I could not connect to the internet.  I tried a few things and then rebooted.  After the reboot I had the option for Windows Repair mode or Start Windows normally.  When I select the later, I get a BSD flash, and the system reboots.

I ran the built in Dell hardware diagnostic tool and it found no errors.  I them tried to run the repair service locally.  It prompted me to run a system restore to a previous version.  When I try that, I get the following error msg:

"The instruction at 0xfb29584d referenced memory at 0x00000008.  The memory could not be read."

I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it found no errors.

I then booted off the Windows disk.

I then ran chkdsk /r /f on the drive with the Windows OS.  No errors.

sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows

The resulting msg I got was:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

When I try to restart, I still get the BSD.  When I try to restore to a previous version, I still get the same error msg as listed above.

Any other ideas or suggestions?
