The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

When I open a game, it says that d3d9x.dll is missing, so I download it and put it in SysWOW64 folder.

Then, when I open the launcher for a game, it says:__________ has stopped working (I don't think the name matters).

So I open the executable and immediately a message pops up saying:The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

I have pretty much done anything the internet told me to:Restart the computer,re-install the game, run as administrator, replace a lot of dlls that have something to do with C++ and API controllers and something like that, repaired .NET framework, checked for volume or something, installed the latest version of DirectX...

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Guides for WinDbg - How to read dump files?

Hello,

I am wanting to start reading my own dump files on Microsoft OS's (primarily 7 and 8) so I can figure out problems for myself. I have Windows Debugger (WinDbg) installed and have read a few guides but they are vague. There is still a whole lot I need to learn. Any guides you guys can recommend? Maybe something a whole lot easier and more detailed or another debugger.

So far I have read these guides from MS ->

How to read the small memory dump file that is created by Windows if a crash occurs - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/315263

Crash dump analysis using the Windows debuggers (WinDbg) - https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff539316?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

I don't understand symbols and haven't been able to get them to work and it mentions I386 folder but that isn't present in Windows 7 and 8. I wasn't able to get any of my minidumps to load.

Thanks

Windows 7 Ultimate App Text and systray missing

I am having an issue where after starting my Windows 7 Ultimate OS, I am presented with a desktop but:

  • the desktop shortcuts do not have any text.
  • The systray is missing.
  • If I roll the mouse across one of the desktop icons, it puts this screenwide highlight over the icon.
  • The taskbar is blank.
  • The start menu icon does not work.
  • There is sometimes this screenwide bar, just above the taskbar, with a tool icon and another icon I can't make out.
  • Any window I open shows the icons but no text so I have no idea what folder I am opening.

I need this machine. I have no Windows 7 Ultimate recovery disk. Any advice is helpful.

So I am having issues updating my Windows 7.

"Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running."

I tried to troubleshoot Windows update and it came with a few errors unfixed.

"Problems installing recent updates"

What is the best way going about fixing this, I could not find solutions online that work for me

a second upgrade???

I have a computer that came loaded with Windows 8. I then upgraded it to Windows 10 that ran flawlessly for about 1 month. Do to a Solid State Hard drive (SSD) problem, the computer had to have a NEW SSD added to replace the first defective one. Once replace, we put the SAME windows 8 system on the computer and then tried to upgrade the win 8 to Win 10. It would NOT work! For some reason, the upgrade would ALWAYS STOP (I tried 3 times) and would restore the computer to the original Win 8 system.

Is there a limit to the number of times you can get the free upgrade for a computer????

mstsc.exe (Remote Desktop) file does not start

Hello,

I am using windows 7 ultimate with SP1 (it was upgraded from home premium via windows anytime upgrade).

Remote desktop was working fine before except with the problem that when I make remote session at full screen then minimize I can not set it to full screen back again.

I found that there is a shortcut keys to put it back to full screen (Ctrl+Alt+Break) and it works. But I wanted to make it as normal as other windows machines in which you can put a remote session on full screen back and forth by one click.

What I have done is that I copied  mstsc.exe file (and also mstscax.dll) form system32 folder in a working machine (it was windows 7 professional SP1) to system32 in my current machine. I replaced the existing files. Since I have done this RDP did not start at all. I click on mstsc.exe file but it does no start. It only starts the process (I can see it on task manager) but it does not show me any GUI to connect. The mstsc.exe in task manager goes crazy always. It can not be stopped unless I log-off or reboot. It keeps showing me busy mouse cursor until it is terminated. It keeps showing another process of same name on task manager but the other process appears for a second and disappears for another and keeps doing this. The main process is still appearing. Both processes can not be stopped.
when I try to kill the process it shows me error message that the operation is not valid for this process.

Anybody can help me on this? I don't have any other ultimate machine to copy files to my machine or I would have tried.

Can mstsc file be fixed by anyway to work normally as before?

OneDrive Syncing Issues between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

I am using OneDrive to work on files at work (Windows 7) and home (Windows 8.1). Last night I made modifications to the files at home. When I went to access the OneDrive files from work this morning, the files showed a modification date and time for last night, but when I opened the files, they showed none of the updates I made last night. I went to Onedrive.com and logged in. The files showed all the changes I made last night. So I downloaded the files from onedrive.com, saved to a folder on my work computer then copied over to OneDrive from my work computer!!  Argh!  I thought the whole idea of OneDrive was to make changes anywhere and see them anywhere.  Why did my Windows 7 computer not see the changes made to OneDrive files on my Windows 8.1 computer???  THanks for any help.

Errors after KB3035583 installed

$

I'm not an IT Tech and I have gone everywhere I can think of to solve the problems I'm having on my laptop without success so I decided to go to the experts here.  I've researched my problem and I believe it started when the KB3035583 update occurred in April.  My has not done any Windows Updates since that date.  Also, I believe that update should have installed the Windows 10 icon but it did not.

Here's what is going on.  My Windows update goes in a vicious circle saying that I need to check for updates.  I check for updates and then it says that I need to restart my computer so it can install updates.  3 update are made only if I select "Shutdown" but they never show up in the "installed updates".  Once I shutdown, my laptop acts as though it is installing 3 updates but when I turn it back on and go to the Windows Updates it tells me to check updates again and repeats what I just wrote.  If I select "restart" then the 3 installations show as failed and again the circle continues.

Another problem that goes along with this problem is that it won't let me change things.  It says my System Administrator needs to make the changes.  I am the only one who uses the computer and I am set up as an Administrator.  In trying to fix this particular issue, I spent 2 hours on the phone with a Microsoft tech.  He couldn't figure it out.  Also, when he remotely connected to my laptop he set up a network Administrator user and that didn't work either.  Also, I can't delete that user.

If there is anyone out there that can help please do.  You can also e-mail me at ladylyn7@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Lyn

I recently lost my external hard drive while it was connected to my laptop and would like to see at what time was it removed. the event logs are only mentioning a Portable device and don't show a serial number nor device name or model. Is the a way for me to get previous logs with the device's name or serial number, date and time?

Drives set to hot swap in BIOS not in Safe To Remove

$

I have an Icy Doc that docks internal drives into a front 5.25 inch bay with two power switches on the front - one for the 2.5 inch dock bay and one for the 3.5 inch dock bay.  In the past drives inserted here as well as internal drives would show up in the Safe To Remove list.  Apparently a Win 7 update fixed the internal drives showing up there.  Now, even though the SATA ports for the ICY Doc are set to hot swap  in the BIOS, they still don't show up in the Safe To Remove List, which means the upper Removable Drive Policies section don't show up in Device Manager Policies Tab like they used to and still do for USB drives.

I found here in the forum some registry lines added to turn off the drives showing up in Safe To Remove List, so I am wondering if there are some lines or a tweak to these lines to get the two ICY DOC SATA ports to show up in Safe To Remove - or is there another way?

Here are the instructions to remove drives from Safe to Remove from the other post by Bobby Mikkelson.

1.       Click Start

2.       In the Search programs and files box, type command

3.       In the Programs list, click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue.

4.       Copy and paste or type each of the commands into the command prompt and press Enter after each command

reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller0\Channel0" /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller0\Channel1" /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

5.       Restart your computer to enable the registry changes

Note: There may be some trial and error to determine the correct ports (also referred to as "channels").

The channel numbers shown in Device Manager may not match the channel number in the registry, so you may need to set the value and verify the desired effect.

Currently there are no entries like this in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\

In case it isn't clear - I WANT the ICY DOC drives to show up in Safe To Remove.
