[SOLVED] Cannot Add Files to Existing Briefcases; New Briefcases OK

0
0

I have a user - probably the only user I can recall ever using this feature - that is unable to add files to existing briefcases.

When attempting to drag & drop a file into a briefcase (any) a small window or pop-up appears & disappears and the file isn't present.  The pop-up displays and hides all too fast for us to see what was written as it happened well under a second.

The problem seems specific to the existing briefcases:

  • If the user creates a new briefcase, and copies the files from the old briefcase into the new, just like above nothing actually gets copied into the new briefcase.
  • If the user copies the files from the old briefcase into their desktop, then copies the files from the desktop into the new briefcase, it works fine.

So the current fauxlution (faux+solution) is to go through the latter process, but they have a few dozen briefcases and that's going to take some time.

To be quite candid, I'm not entirely sure where to begin - how does one go about fixing a broken briefcase?

Corrupted Recycle Bin on redirected user folders error

0
0

Hi there,

I have a lab setup at a school featuring Win2003 server and Win7 Enterprise clients. When a user logs onto the Win7 clients, they get the following errors: "The recycle bin on \\server\username\My Videos is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?" If you click Yes, it moves onto an identical message, but this time about \\server\username\My Pictures, then \\server\username\My Music, and finally \\server\username itself. The interesting thing here is the username listed in the error is my tech account, not the user who is trying to log in.

I've read similar error messages here but they're not quite the same. They seem to point to a permissions problem. But I haven't had luck so far.

Suggestions? Thanks!

Password Notification with window 7

0
0
With windows XP the users receive a prompt when they logged on letting them know that their password is about to expire.  With Windows 7 all they see is the "Consider Changing Your Password" notification the notification area.  Then if you click on the icon or balloon the icon disappears from the notification area until next logon.  I am afraid that this will not be enough of a notification for our users.  I would like to see the Logon Message that appears on windows XP to appear on windows 7.  I have set the interactive logon: prompt user to change password before expiration to 14 days. Additionally, I have Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon enabled.  What can I do to either get the prompt back or have the balloon stay open until they close it (drawing their attention to it) and have the change password window open when they do click on that icon in the notification area.

Times New Roman v5.20 and Indian Rupee Symbol

0

The latest public version of the "Times New Roman" font for Windows 7, version 5.20, supplied in KB2970228 (update for Russian rouble) has dropped support for the U+20B9 INDIAN RUPEE SIGN, which was present in previous versions since 5.08.

Other Microsoft fonts in the same update still support the Indian Rupee Sign.

Is there any fix for the missing Indian Rupee Sign in Times New Roman v5.20?

IE11 opening 'New Tabs' as 'New Window'

Original Thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/ie11-opening-new-tabs-as-new-window/9836eb86-9879-46e6-8b86-3d2e8c272f00

Hi,

I'm currently having an issue with a few computers that have been updated via WSUS. It appears that the IE11 browsers are opening "New Tabs" as "New Windows" and I haven't been able to figure out a resolution as of yet.

Computers are all Windows 7 x86, running IE11 Ver 11.0.9600.17691 / Update Ver: 11.0.17 (KB3032359)

I've tested multiple websites to make sure it's not just a website causing the problem. All websites are doing it.

I've reinstalled IE11 and even tried to 'repair' IE11 but this hasn't resolved it. No issues found.

I've uninstalled all virus/spyware protection (McAfee)

I've reset Internet Explorer 11 through 'Advanced' in options.

I've restored advanced settings

I've checked "Tabbed Browsing Settings" and they're all set to open in a new tab, not a window.

--

Does anyone have any suitable solutions? trying to avoid rebuilds (though I know this fixes the issue)

Cheers,

Matt.

--

Additional information:

Computers are on a domain network

Last time this worked fine was before the deployment of IE11 (we were on IE9)

No changes were made prior to deployment via WSUS.

Clean Boot didn't resolve my issue.

Turned off and back on via Windows Features. Didn't resolve.

SFC /ScanNow didn't find any problems.

Remote Desktop Connection section was disconnected because of protocol error

 Hi Experts,

I desperately need a help with my problem. I used Windows 7 and since I started Remote Desktop Connection it worked perfect for 3 days. Yesterday something happened.

First I run Windows Firewall with  Advance Security. Then I run Remote Desktop Connection . It started to load (as many times before) and then suddenly generated a Remote Desktop Connection  message "Because of protocol error, this section will be disconnected. Please try connectiong to the remote computer again"

However, try as I might I was unable to connect anymore.

I tried first to run Windows Firewall with  Advance Security and then to run VNC Server and then Remote Desktop Connection but it didn't work. Sometimes I got a message that Remote Desktop Connection was busy. I shut down my PC and started over but failed anyway.

Am I doing something wrong? Could you please give me a hand? Thank you in advance!

Irina

Problem - I am facing problem installing Windows Language Pack through silent/unattend mode

Hello,

I need to install Windows 7 Spanish Language Pack through some script. The command that i am using is -

lpksetup.exe /i es-ES /r /s /p "C:\Users\001\Desktop\Win7_LP\". On going to task manager, lpksetup.exe shows for 5-6 seconds and terminates.

The same command has been created though vbs script. The script goes as -

Set WshShell=CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
sourcedir =Left (wscript.ScriptFullName,Instrrev (wscript.ScriptFullName,"\"))
WshShell.Run "lpksetup.exe /i es-ES /r /s /p " & chr(34) & sourcedir & chr(34),0,True

The same behavior (lpksetup.exe shows for a while and gets terminated) has been noticed when i am running through script.

Now, i have been reading blogs related to this. For automated installation, most of them suggested either to use lpksetup.exe or through DISM. Now DISM needs a lp.cab file. Now when i am extracting my exe, there are plenty of folders getting created but there is no lp.cab file. Instead there is one cab getting created by the name "locdrv.cab". I do not have any MSDN subscript account to download the iso file.

Now, what i need from anyone who can answer my query is how to execute my current vbs file ? Why it is not getting executed ? Is there any problem with the command ?

One more thing, i have executed the command line by keeping my ES Service Pack exe in a server share with full admin rights of the executing account -

lpksetup.exe /i es-ES /r /s /p \\server_name\Win7_LP\.

If anyone can help, it would be of great help.

EventID 6008 When using shutdown.exe from command line (W7).

W7 Pro.

Elevated command prompt.

shutdown.exe /r /t 20 /d P:1:1 /c "blather, blather, blather"

The above command, when executed from Task Scheduler OR directly from the CLI generates the follow error in the system log:

Additionally, when the command runs, the following information event is created in the system log:

Obviously the restart is running correctly and the event is being logged correctly.  Unfortunately, The EventID 6008 error should not be generated, but it is.  The only similar report I could find pertained to Windows 2000 and involved a hotfix to correct the issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to resolve this?  I need to be able to detect valid 6008 events, so ignoring this is not an option.

Thanks in advance!

Windows 7

I have an Asus and have had it for several years. I has Windows 7 as its operating system. About 3 or4 months ago my desktop went black and I have, in the bottom right corner of the desktop a message that says:

Windows 7

Build 7601

This copy of Windows is not genuine.

I bought the computer from a computer store/repair in my hometown. How do I fix this, if it can be fixed, without buying a new copy of windows? Thanks donna

w7 system image backup failed with error code 0X8007002 cannot find file..

I have a Dell XPS 8500 with Windows 7 home premium 64 bits and 16 GB RAM. I am trying tobackup to an external HDD (WD mypassport 500 GB) connected to USB 3.0 using windowsbackup function (only windows backup). The USB 3.0 is based on intel drivers. My whole C disk contains approx 110 GB data (should fit in my external HDD without problems). I have had my PC in one month and I succedded a couple of times to perform a complete backup (system image + data) to a USB3 port/HDD, but often it ends in failure. When I try to backup asystem image (only system image bup), the backup fails with theerror code "0X8007002 cannot find specified file" (no information about the file).  I have tried several times to backup the system image but I am always getting the same error. If I backup only the "libraries" (periodic data backup) to the same external HDD, the backup is completed without problems. Therefore I am assuming that the comunication with the external HDD via USB 3 is working (despite having some USB3 initial recognition problems in general).  I have run a complete backup (system image + data) to a USB2 port and it worked. It seems that there is a problem with system image backup to USB3 (intel drivers Ivy bridge on Dell XPS 8500). Why is the data backup working and why do I get this error code on system image bup (error message that implies that there is some corrupt data)? Any suggestions???

I keep getting BSOD, can you take a look at my dumps

I am trying to trouble shoot BSOD's on my computer.  It seems like they are happening everyday.

The image name was ntkrnlmp.exe in most of the dumps.  I got errors of memory_management, system_service_exception, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, and others in the dumps  .

Aswsp.sys also came up in one of the dumps.

Here is a link to some of the latest minidumps:  http://meltoninteriors.com/adjc98/minidumps.zip

Can you take a look at the dumps to point me in the right direction as to the cause of the BSOD's?

My computer is Windows 7,  64bit Intel processor, 32 gig of ram.  Intel HD Graphics 4600.  This computer is custom built so hardware could be an isssue.

When I ran WinDbg on the minidump from the latest BSOD I got this below:

Can't delete folders because thumbs.db is in use

0
0

We're having a minor problem with Windows 7.  The majority of the time we try to delete a folder full of jpg's, we get an error saying it can't be deleted because thumbs.db is in use.  The user isn't going into the folder itself, so I assume that the machines are trying to make a thumbs.db to be used by the folder icon where it updates to include thumbnails of the files inside of it, and this is why it says thumbs.db is in use?

If that is the case, is there a way to prevent this?  or is my problem something different from what I described?

MSE Event viewer errors

0
0

Hi,

recently I see two errors in the event viewer at every login. I think they are related to MSE. I already reformated my system but the errors occur right after I install MSE. The errors indicate that some rights are missing, but I use an administrator account, therefore access should be granted. Please note that this is a fresh windows 7 installation without any third party software. I just install windows (no OEM), every driver, sp1, all windows updates (also recommended). Then I install MSE. After rebooting (into an admin account) the errors appear.

I tried to reproduce the errors in a virtual machine with only win7 installed and every (also recommended) update. At first the errors didn't appear. Then I reverted the VM back to the point before I install MSE (which is after every update is applied) and tried it again. I expected that these errors won't be there because I did just the same as before. But this time (after MSE was installed again) I rebooted multiple times and the errors appeared. I tried several other scenarios (admin/limited account etc) but wasn't able to track down the actual cause. I think that MSE is working despite these error messages. However, when I see that the network inspection is not working, I'm getting worried.

Errors:

1) Event ID 7006 The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for Start with the following error:
Access is denied.

2) Event ID 3002 Microsoft Antimalware Real-Time Protection feature has encountered an error and failed.
Feature: Network Inspection System
Error Code: 0x80070005

Error description: Access is denied.
Reason: The system is missing updates that are required for running Network Inspection System. Install the required   updates and restart the computer

RegSvr32 - "C\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\...(file).dll" failed to load.

Hello to all the tech wizards out there.

I am having a recurring problem as described below...

The 2 messages I am receiving every time the computer is restarted are;

(1) RegSvr32 “C:Users\bobxxxx\AppData\Local\ASMIopt2171.dll” failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found.

(2) RegSvr32 “C:Users\bobxxxx\AppData\Local\Ejption\plugin-container.dll” failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found.

They always pop up with an X in a red box.

The .dll files referred to are not on my computer anywhere and am unable to find where they came from.

Can anyone help me to resolve this?

Error Code 0x8087002B while attempting to restore image files

0

Dear all

My computer is unable to boot into Windows (7 Pro) - I get an error saying "Non-system disk or disk error" even though the BIOs has been configured to boot from the right hard disk. Thinking it may be an error in the disk, I attempted to restore an image backup of the system files (this was from Backup and Restore, so it's a vhd file), using the Win7 installation disk, and have loaded the necessary network drivers (the vhd is stored in a network location). A few seconds after restoration of the image began I received an error code 0x8078002B - unable to open one or more backup files.

I have checked Google for such an error code but all results were for 0x8078002A. I ran a check on the vhd file - I tried to mount it (read-only) on another computer, and ran chkdsk, but no errors were reported (I'm not even sure if that actually helps). I was able to view the files inside the vhd as well. Can anyone enlighten me on this error code?

If it helps, before this issue happened, I believe there was a hardware issue (some DIMM error). I went online and one of the suggestions was to update my BIOs - the rationale was that the old firmware for the BIOs could give inaccurate error codes. I did go to the manufacturer's website and downloaded the right .exe file to update my BIOs, but after the computer restarted the error "Non-system disk or disk error" appeared.
